Dr. Philip K. Frykman, MD, PhD
Dr. Phil Frykman has been a specialist in pediatric surgical care for over two decades. Practising in Calabasas as the lead surgeon and founder of Pacific Coast Pediatric Surgery, he manages the full range of conditions and surgeries children may require.
A devoted father who has experienced serious illness within his own family, Dr. Frykman understands the challenges parents and caregivers face. That perspective shapes how he communicates with families and children alike, and it is why he treats every patient as if they were his own.

Call the office or send a request and the team will arrange a consultation, usually within a few days. Urgent concerns are triaged the same day wherever possible.

Meet Dr. Frykman
He examines your child, reviews any imaging you bring, and explains what the condition is and what the options are in language you can actually use.

Decide together
You will know what the procedure involves, what the alternatives are and what recovery looks like before anything is scheduled. Questions are welcome, twice if needed.

Recovery and follow-up
Dr. Frykman checks on your child after surgery and follows up by phone once you are home. You will have written instructions and a number to call.

What is a pediatric surgeon, and how is one different from a general surgeon?
A pediatric surgeon completes general surgery training and then further fellowship training devoted entirely to operating on infants, children and adolescents. That extra training covers the anatomy, physiology, anaesthesia considerations and emotional needs specific to children, which differ substantially from adults.
What ages does Dr. Frykman treat?
Dr. Frykman cares for patients from newborns through to the late teens. He also offers prenatal consultations, so expectant parents can meet their surgeon and plan care before the baby arrives.
Do you offer second opinions?
Yes. Families frequently come to Pacific Coast Pediatric Surgery for a second opinion, particularly for colorectal conditions and childhood tumors. Bring any imaging, operative reports and pathology you have, and Dr. Frykman will review them with you.
